Mohegan Sun: The Landmark Mosaic Project That Helped Launch Allison Eden Studios
Long before custom mosaic installations became a signature of Allison Eden Studios, one extraordinary project helped define the studio’s future.
When Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut was being created, Allison Eden arrived at a jobsite that was still largely dirt and trees—and stepped into an ambitious design vision by Rockwell Group that would keep Allison and her team creating mosaics nearly every day for more than a year.
The result became one of Allison Eden Studios’ earliest major commercial commissions and a formative project in Allison’s career as a commercial mosaic artist and designer.
Working across the expansive casino and hospitality environment, Allison Eden Studios created an extraordinary collection of custom stained glass and ceramic mosaic murals, architectural mosaics, decorative flooring, medallions and feature installations. The artwork extended throughout restaurants, guest areas, bathrooms, pool environments, registration areas and other public spaces, helping turn functional architectural surfaces into memorable pieces of art.
The scope shown in these photographs demonstrates how diverse a single custom mosaic program can become. Bold figurative murals coexist with enormous abstract compositions, colorful restaurant installations, sculptural architectural treatments, ceramic floor medallions and intricate glass mosaic artwork.
Rather than relying on one repeating decorative motif, the project became a collection of individual visual experiences united through color, craftsmanship, movement and storytelling.
For the restaurant environments, brilliant stained glass mosaics transform entire walls into artwork. Rich oranges, reds, yellows, greens, blues and metallic accents create energetic compositions that respond beautifully to hospitality lighting. Other areas incorporate figurative imagery and large-scale abstract designs, demonstrating how custom mosaic can help establish a unique identity for different venues within the same resort.
The project also demonstrates something that remains central to Allison Eden Studios today: mosaic does not have to be confined to a backsplash or conventional tiled wall. It can become a floor, mural, architectural feature, reception backdrop, restaurant centerpiece or an immersive art experience extending throughout an entire property.

Today, Allison Eden Studios continues that tradition from its Brooklyn studio, creating custom glass, mirror and stone mosaics for hotels, casinos, restaurants, resorts, spas, clubs and commercial interiors. Projects can be developed around an architect’s original concept, a property’s story, brand colors, local history or completely original artwork.
Mohegan Sun was more than an early commission. It helped establish the creative direction that would define Allison Eden Studios for decades to come: turning architecture into art, one piece of mosaic at a time.
