When Elton John envisioned a whimsical, one-of-a-kind statement for the bathroom of his Malibu, California home, Allison Eden Studios transformed that vision into a custom work of glass mosaic art. Featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, the resulting Overlapping Circles mosaic demonstrates how bespoke decorative surfaces can completely transform an interior.
Inspired by the playful, effervescent spirit of a bubble bath, the custom mosaic features overlapping circles of hand-cut stained glass and mirror in luminous shades of aqua, cobalt blue, soft blue, fresh green, gray and white. Rather than relying on a conventional repeating tile pattern, circles of different scales appear to float, intersect and move across the walls, creating an energetic composition filled with depth and movement.
The varied stained glass gives each circle subtle shifts in color and texture, while reflective and iridescent elements interact with the room’s light. The result changes throughout the day as the glass catches and reflects its surroundings.
