Tiffany-Inspired Jewel Box: A Custom Glass Mosaic Fireplace
A fireplace can be more than an architectural feature—it can become a work of art.
For the restoration of this period-inspired luxury residence, Allison Eden Studios created a spectacular custom stained glass mosaic fireplace surround inspired by the extraordinary glass artistry of Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Handcrafted in the Allison Eden Studios workshop in Brooklyn, New York, the intricate geometric composition combines luminous shades of emerald, turquoise, aqua, sapphire and jewel-toned green glass to create a fireplace that seems to change as natural light moves through the room. Individual pieces of stained glass were carefully cut and assembled into a richly detailed pattern, transforming the fireplace and television wall into a dramatic focal point.
In a particularly meaningful connection to the history of American decorative glass, many of the glass pieces were sourced from the original manufacturer associated with Tiffany glass, bringing an authentic material connection to the inspiration behind the design.
The project also has a wonderful sense of place. More than a century after Louis Comfort Tiffany created some of America’s most celebrated stained glass works in New York, Allison Eden Studios continues the tradition of handcrafted decorative glass in Brooklyn, interpreting historic craftsmanship through a fresh contemporary perspective.
For homeowners who collect Tiffany lamps or stained glass windows, a custom mosaic fireplace offers another way to bring the luminosity, color and craftsmanship of decorative glass into the architecture of the home. For interior designers, it demonstrates how bespoke glass mosaic tile can turn an ordinary fireplace surround into permanent architectural art.
Each Allison Eden Studios custom mosaic is designed for its individual space and handcrafted to order, allowing color, scale and pattern to be tailored to the architecture and personality of the home.
