Moonlight Transformed — A 48-Inch Glow-in-the-Dark Glass Mosaic Moon
Southampton, NY
Created for Villa Luna, a Hamptons residence conceived around a deep appreciation for the moon, this extraordinary 48-inch round glass mosaic moon sculpture by Allison Eden Studios transforms dramatically from day to night.
By daylight, the artwork appears as an elegant celestial composition of luminous glass, mirror, textural fragments, and carefully selected mosaic materials arranged to evoke the craters, shadows, and mysterious surface of the moon. When darkness falls, the piece undergoes a remarkable transformation: specially incorporated glow-in-the-dark glass elements illuminate the artwork from within, producing an ethereal green radiance reminiscent of moonlight in the night sky.
The result is almost two artworks in one — a sophisticated contemporary glass mosaic during the day and a glowing celestial sculpture after dark.
Handcrafted over weeks by the skilled glass artists and mosaic artisans at Allison Eden Studios in Brooklyn, New York, the piece required meticulous planning, material selection, cutting, placement, and hand assembly. Each fragment was individually considered for its color, translucency, reflection, texture, and relationship to the surrounding pieces, allowing the surface to feel organic rather than mechanically patterned.
The artwork demonstrates Allison Eden Studios’ mastery of glass as an artistic medium. Traditional stained glass and mosaic craftsmanship are combined with innovative luminous materials to create a work that changes according to its environment and the time of day.
For its owner, whose Hamptons home celebrates the moon through both architecture and design, the sculpture became a natural centerpiece — part contemporary artwork, part celestial object, and part exploration of light itself.
