James Rizzi & Allison Eden: A Celebration of New York Through Mosaic Art
Few artists have captured the joy, optimism, and unmistakable energy of New York City quite like James Rizzi. Long before our collaborative works found homes in galleries and private collections around the world, I had the privilege of calling James a friend, mentor, and creative partner.
In the early 2000s, we spent countless hours together in his iconic SoHo loft, where ideas flowed as freely as laughter. Surrounded by paint, sketches, music, and the vibrant spirit of downtown Manhattan, we collaborated on a series of unique mosaic artworks that blended James Rizzi’s whimsical, joyful imagery with the handcrafted stained glass techniques of Allison Eden Studios.
James had an extraordinary gift for finding happiness in everyday life. His colorful world was filled with smiling buildings, playful people, cheerful animals, and the infectious optimism that became his signature style. Translating that unmistakable artistic language into glass mosaic was both a creative challenge and an unforgettable experience. Each collaboration celebrated the energy of New York while introducing a new dimension of texture, light, and craftsmanship.
Our collaborative pieces were represented by Barrington Gallery and collected internationally, particularly in Germany, where James enjoyed an enthusiastic following. His influence extended far beyond the gallery world—his artwork inspired architectural projects, appeared on a German postage stamp, and became a symbol of joyful urban life recognized around the globe.
One of my favorite memories was attending James Rizzi’s induction into the ArtExpo Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to an artist whose work touched millions. His creative reach extended into music as well, designing album artwork and creating a music video for the Tom Tom Club, another wonderful reminder of how seamlessly he blended art, music, and New York culture.
Although James is no longer with us, his artistic legacy continues to inspire generations of artists, collectors, and dreamers. His work reminds us that cities can smile, buildings can dance, and art has the power to make people happier simply by experiencing it.
At Allison Eden Studios, I remain deeply grateful for our time together and proud to have helped translate James Rizzi’s joyful vision into handcrafted stained glass mosaics. These collaborative works stand as a celebration of friendship, creativity, and two artists united by a shared love for New York City.
Whether you’re a longtime collector of James Rizzi’s work or discovering these collaborations for the first time, we hope this collection brings the same sense of wonder, color, and happiness that inspired us while creating them together.
