SMILE Lips – Fun Ball is a joyful explosion of color, repetition, and optical illusion by Brooklyn glass artist Allison Eden. Part of Eden’s signature SMILE Lips series, this 44-inch circular stained glass mosaic transforms her iconic lips motif into a vibrant composition that appears almost spherical, despite being completely two-dimensional.
Created over weeks of meticulous hand craftsmanship at Allison Eden Studios in Brooklyn, New York, every individual lip is cut, shaped, fitted, and assembled by hand from richly colored stained glass. Saturated reds, pinks, yellows, blues, greens, purples, oranges, and blacks create a kaleidoscopic field of color, punctuated by crisp white smiles.
The simplicity of the individual motif disguises the complexity of the artwork.
Through carefully orchestrated scale, repetition, placement, color relationships, and visual rhythm, Eden creates the illusion that the flat circular artwork curves outward like an enormous ball. The eye reads depth and movement where none physically exists, giving the work an energetic quality that changes as the viewer approaches it or moves across the room.
